AUSTIN (March 4, 2014) Austin’s police chief arrested a suspected drunken driver after spotting the man's vehicle stopped near Interstate 35.
Art Acevedo, who runs a department of about 2,300 personnel, made the arrest Friday afternoon after finding the man passed out behind the wheel.
Travis County jail records show Christopher Colvin, 44, was held Tuesday on a driving while intoxicated charge in lieu of $10,000 bond.
Acevedo was driving when he spotted the SUV stopped with its engine still running in a turn lane near I-35, officials said.
A police report says the chief saw an open container of beer in the vehicle and that Colvin smelled of alcohol.
