NEW BRAUNFELS (May 30, 2014) Two Guadalupe River outfitters are complaining to Comal County commissioners what they say is too great a police presence along the popular river route for tubers.

Campground operator Paul Rich and Johnnie Bezdek, who runs a rental firm, says the number of Department of Public Safety troopers present over the Memorial Day weekend amounted to overkill and scared away customers.

Rich says he thinks the number of troopers should be reduced along the 10-mile-long River Road stretch from New Braunfels to Sattler that typically draws thousands of vacationers.

The tubing area also has been known to become rowdy.

Bezdek told commissioners that county deputies and constables shouldn't need outside help from state police.

County commissioners did not respond.
