BROWNFIELD (March 6, 2013)—Jose DeLuna, 42, who was wanted for gunning down his wife’s parents, died hours after the shooting when his vehicle collided with an 18-wheeler.
DeLuna was killed Tuesday afternoon when his car crossed the center line west of Brownfield and collided with the oncoming big rig, Brownfield Police Chief Tony Serbantez said.
Shortly after noon Tuesday, DeLuna walked into the home of Jesus Contreras, 70 and Rosa Contreras, 63, searching for his wife, from whom he was separated.
The three argued and DeLuna’s in-laws were shot.
Police were not pursuing DeLuna when his car struck the rig, Serbantez said Wednesday.
Serbantez says the last homicide to occur in Brownfield was in 2009.
