MIDLAND (October 28, 2013) Part of Milam Elementary School in Midland was evacuated Monday after a child arrived with some type of explosive device.
Midland Independent School District officials said nobody was hurt.
Authorities believe the item was either a firework or an oilfield device.
Superintendent Ryder Warren said the device was found outside the front door.
Students and staff in nearby classrooms were evacuated as a precaution.
Midland police safely removed the device.
Further information about the item wasn't immediately released.
School officials did not release the name of the child.
Warren said students would be given a note to take home Monday afternoon about the incident and to remind parents to check what children put in their backpacks.
