DALLAS (March 6, 2014) Robert Earley, 33, of Euless, was jailed Wednesday in Carlsbad, N.M., facing murder charges in the death of his girlfriend, Emily Lambert, 33, whose body was found Tuesday along a highway near the city.
Lambert was last seen Saturday night leaving a Carlsbad bar, authorities said.
Her body was discovered Tuesday afternoon.
A 911 call released Thursday revealed that Earley initially claimed Lambert vanished when they parted at the bar on Sunday morning following an argument.
But he eventually told investigators he knocked Lambert unconscious and took her to a rural area near Carlsbad.
An affidavit says he struck her with an air pump and then used a rope and his car to drag her body behind a barn.
Earley worked in the southeastern New Mexico oilfield and Lambert was visiting him for the weekend, Carlsbad Police Capt. Jarod Florez said.
Lambert, a mother of two children, was a third grade teacher at O. Henry Elementary School in the Richardson Independent School District.
Grief counselors were at the school on Wednesday.
"We are deeply saddened by the news of the loss of an RISD family member, Emily Lambert, a third grade teacher at O. Henry Elementary," the district said on its Facebook page.
"Our condolences to her family, friends, students and coworkers."
The cause of Lambert's death hasn’t been released.
Her body was found near where another homicide victim's body was found in November.
That woman's husband and a friend face charges in her death.
