FORT WORTH (December 28, 2013) A 14-year-old Texas boy who was shot in the head by a man who told officers he didn’t realize the gun he was holding was loaded has died, police say.
The teenager was in critical condition after the shooting and later died, authorities said.
The 24-year-old man pulled out the gun late Thursday at a home where a group of people gathered and then pulled the trigger once.
The shot struck the boy just above the eye.
The unidentified man ran from the home, but later called police to report the shooting.
He told officers he didn’t know the gun was loaded.
He was in custody Friday for questioning.
Charges were pending.
The man and the teenager were acquaintances, police said.
Neither lived at the home where the shooting occurred.
