LA MARQUE (February 5, 2014) A 73-year-old woman held her husband hostage at home and tactical-unit officers at bay for six hours before finally surrendering Wednesday in the Galveston suburb of La Marque.
Police received a report the women was holding her husband against his will shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday, Lt.. Kirk Jackson said.
When officers reached her by phone, she hung up on them, police Sgt. Shawn Spruill said.
Officers surrounded the house and evacuated neighboring homes.
A Texas City police tactical squad was summoned about three hours later.
Finally, a family attorney was able to talk the woman into surrendering.
She was taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation.
It was unclear if a weapon was involved.
