PLANO (January 29, 2014) Melinda Muniz, 25, of Plano, was held Wednesday in the Collin County Jail in lieu of $1 million bond, charged with capital murder in the death of her fiancée’s 2-year-old daughter.

She’s accused of using duct tape and suffocating the girl after the toddler’s father called off the couple’s engagement.

Plano police say Muniz faked a report about an attacker breaking into the couple's apartment on Jan. 9.

Officers found Grace Lillian Ford unconscious with duct tape over her mouth.

The girl died on Jan. 12.

An arrest warrant affidavit says the child's father told Muniz earlier on Jan. 9 that he was calling off their engagement and wanted her to move out.
