FORT WORTH (April 24, 2013)--A North Texas woman has been charged in the 1986 death of her toddler nephew who died after he was in her care, cold case investigators say.
Patricia Ann Jones was arrested a few days after 19-month-old John P. Jones died in 1986, but formal charges were not filed and she was freed, police said.
Jones was charged Tuesday with murder after police took another look at the case.
She was held Wednesday in the Mansfield City Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that her then-husband took the toddler to a hospital on Sept. 4, 1986.
The child had a head injury, lost consciousness and died five days later.
Police said they don't expect more arrests.
