CORPUS CHRISTI (January 18, 2013)—Laura Lee Day, 47, of Corpus Christi has been indicted for capital murder in the death of her 6-year-old stepson who drowned while in her care during a beach outing.
She's also charged with injury to a child with intent to cause serious bodily injury and endangering a child.
Day, who remains in the Nueces County Jail, could face execution if convicted in the Oct. 5 death of Taylor Syring.
Police said Day told them she let the boy remove his life jacket while swimming alone in shallow water as she watched him.
His mother, Kelly Syring, said Taylor wasn't a strong swimmer and she would never let him go into the water by himself.
