Texas Woman, Son, Second Boy Spend Cold Night In Kayaks

A Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued a Texas woman, her son and another boy early Friday after the three spent a cold night adrift in their kayaks in northeastern Wisconsin.

STURGEON BAY, Wis. (July 11, 2014) Allison Alter, 43, her son, Zach Suri, 9, both of Austin, and Thomas Alter, 9, of Highland Park, Ill., were rescued early Friday after spending the night adrift in their kayaks on the waters of Green Bay in Wisconsin.

They were treated for mild hypothermia and then released from a hospital in northeastern Wisconsin.

They were rescued at around 6 a.m. Friday by the crew of a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter.

The three were reported missing at around 6:30 p.m. Thursday after launching their kayaks Thursday afternoon from Nicolet Bay in Peninsula State Park Thursday afternoon.

The kayak rental company called authorities after they failed to return.

The three were found about 14 miles from their launch site with their two kayaks tethered together.
