SIERRA BLANCA (June 8, 2011)—A court in West Texas will fine country music legend and unabashed marijuana aficionado Willie Nelson $787 to settle marijuana possession charges.
Hudspeth County Attorney Kit Bramblett told The Associated Press Wednesday that Nelson, 78, can mail a check to cover the $500 fine and $287 in court costs.
In March, Bramblett suggested that County Judge Becky Dean-Walker had ordered Nelson to perform "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" in court.
At the time, Dean-walker said Bramblett's suggestion was a "joke that got out of hand."
On Wednesday, Bramblett confirmed that Nelson is “not coming, he’s not singing.”
Nelson was arrested Nov. 26 at a Border Patrol checkpoint after an agent searched his tour bus because of a suspicious aroma coming from the vehicle.
He was later released after posting bond.
