McALLEN (February 3, 2012)—Carmen Alonzo, 57, of Progreso, has pleaded guilty in federal court in McAllen to engaging in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign country.
He could be sentenced to as much as 30 years in prison when he's sentenced on April 11.
According to the statement, U.S. border agents encountered an underage girl last July as she headed south through the Progreso border crossing.
Alonzo had worked at the border crossing, and the agents learned from the girl that he'd had sex with her in Mexico.
Thursday, Alonzo admitted having sex over the first quarter of 2010 with the girl, who was younger than 16 at the time.
