Texas Warehouse Worker Pinned Under 1,500-Pound Crate

SAN ANTONIO (July 15, 2011)—Occupational Health and Safety Administration investigators are looking into a warehouse accident in which a worker died after she was pinned under a 1,500-pound crate.

The San Antonio Express-News reported Friday that OSHA investigators were sent to Con-Way Freight after Marissa Garcia, 49, was killed.

A forklift operator told police he placed the seven-foot crate on the loading dock Thursday when it wobbled and pinned Garcia.

Garcia was pronounced dead at Brooke Army Medical Center shortly after midnight.

The incident report said she sustained massive head trauma as a result of the accident.

Con-Way is a national trucking and shipping services firm.

Company officials declined comment when contacted by the newspaper.

OSHA will attempt to determine the circumstances under which the accident occurred.
