Texas Woman Charged In Young Daughter’s Death

HOUSTON (February 3, 2012)—Rosa Gonzalez, 41, of Houston has been charged with injury to a child in the death of her 5-year-old daughter in a case in which officers were first told the girl had fallen off a toilet.

Bond was denied for Gonzalez, whose immigration status is under federal review.

She was arrested Wednesday after investigators questioned the family’s story that Candy Flores hit her head on the floor after falling off a toilet.

Police said the child appeared bruised and malnourished.

A judge refused to place the woman's six other children, who have been in protective custody since the girl’s death, with relatives.
