Rusty Garrett here with the weekend outlook: Saturday will be the milder of the two days. Sun and clouds will be the rule with early weekend highs in the mid 80s. Back to the low to mid 90s on Sunday!
BEAUMONT (March 15, 2012)—Lula Thurman of Humble has been sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison for falsifying Medicare and Medicaid claims for wheelchairs.
Thurman received the 46-month sentence Wednesday after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit health care fraud.
Thurman, 61, filed claims for wheelchairs supposedly damaged by Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita that the government says didn't exist in a scheme that netted nearly $484,000.
Thurman was also ordered to pay restitution in that amount.
She entered the plea last October after she was indicted five months earlier.
