TEXAS CITY (February 10 ,2014) Thieves stole a total of 88 wheels from 22 new cars and trucks over the weekend at a dealership in Texas City, and left the vehicles on unsteady wooden blocks.
Some of the vehicles targeted at DeMontrond Chevrolet later fell off the blocks and sustained frame damage as well.
A damage estimate wasn’t immediately released.
Investigators believe the theft happened sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning when the dealership was closed.
Sgt. David Fairchild says the crooks cut the locks off the gates, snipped wires to light poles and then stole the wheels.
Police are checking security video and asking anyone who drove by and noticed suspicious activity to contact authorities.
