GATESVILLE (January 5, 2013)—Three people were taken Saturday afternoon by ambulance to an area hospital from the scene of a head on highway crash west of Gatesville.
A Department of Public Safety trooper at the scene said an elderly man, driver of one vehicle, and two women who were in the other vehicle, all were taken to Coryell Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries.
Gatesville fire rescue units, two ambulances and at least two DPS units were sent at about 2:20 p.m. to U.S. Highway 84 at Arnett, about 9 miles west of Gatesville, after a passing driver reported a head on collision.
The investigating trooper said a Ford Edge, driven by the elderly man, was attempting a left hand turn off westbound U.S. 84 when it collided head on with an eastbound Kia SUV.
The eastbound lanes of the highway were blocked as rescuers freed the women from the Kia and while crews cleared the roadway of debris.
