WACO (March 6, 2014) Waco police arrested three juveniles on felony criminal mischief charges Thursday morning in connection with a string of incidents of vandalism that left 30 vehicles damaged in local neighborhoods.
A tip from a resident who saw news reports about the vandalism led to the arrests, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.
"These three suspects committed criminal mischief by using a BB gun or cinder block and rocks, damaging vehicles in the Northwest Waco area and other parts of Waco as well," Swanton said.
"It just goes to show what happens when the community and media work together with their police department to solve crimes," Swanton said.
Damage from the vandalism, most of which occurred in late February, totaled several thousand dollars, Swanton said.
The vandals evidently drove through neighborhoods mainly in an area from North 19th Street to the Chimney Hill addition and from Park Lake Drive to Herring Avenue, stopping next to parked cars and shooting or breaking out the windows, police said.
Most of the incidents were reported in late February.
