Three Texas Officers, Suspect Burned In Fiery Confrontation

CEDAR HILL (July 9, 2014) A man who had a bottle of flammable liquid set himself and a police officer on fire before another officer shot him Wednesday in a confrontation at a strip shopping center in Cedar Hill.

City spokesman Corky Brown says three officers were burned.

One of the officers was flown to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.

The suspect also was taken to Parkland.

Police say officers pursued the man, who was a suspect in a nearby burglary, when he ran into a chicken wing shop.

The officers followed and tried to subdue the suspect, but he was able to set himself and the officers on fire.

Police Lt. Charles Reiss said the officers tried to smother the flames and one officer eventually shot the man outside in the parking lot.

No further details were immediately available.
