TEMPLE (December 30, 2013) Temple police are investigating a three-vehicle weekend accident that sent four people to a local hospital, two of whom later died.
The accident happened just before 3 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of East Avenue H and South Martin Luther King, Jr., Drive, where a southbound Chevrolet S-10 pickup, whose driver ran a red light, collided with a Ford SUV that was eastbound on Avenue H, police said.
The pickup also struck a Nissan sedan that was stopped for the light on northbound MLK.
The driver of the pickup and two passengers suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash.
They were taken to Scott & White Hospital where the driver, whom police identified Monday as David Smallwood, 55, of Austin, died a short time later.
One of the two passengers in the pickup died early Sunday morning, police said.
The victim’s name was withheld until relatives could be notified.
One person who was riding in the Nissan suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Scott & White, police said.
