FORT HOOD (April 8, 2014) Traffic backed up early Tuesday after access to Fort Hood was restricted as part of a regular security protocol, according to the post media relations office.

Chris Haug said he was notified just after 10:30 p.m. Monday that security at all access points would be stepped up Tuesday and that all vehicles entering the post would be inspected.

Haug said the issue Tuesday the regular stepped up security rotation is not tied to any specific event.

Traffic at the main gate was backed up for miles onto U.S. 190 in both directions as security personnel were inspecting each vehicle that came to the gate.

The security protocol was expected to last all day, Haug said.

One civilian employee who works on post said an order issued this week says a new security procedure at all gates will include the detailed inspection of six out of every 10 vehicles that enter post until further notice.

President Barack Obama is scheduled to attend a memorial service Wednesday afternoon on post for the three soldiers killed in a shooting rampage last Wednesday.
