GATESVILLE (December 22, 2013) A toy distribution group in Gatesville that supports families and children in need during Christmas is lacking toys to deliver to their final children and families who signed up for gift assistance this holiday season.
The Gatesville Christmas Help is in its first year of operation and has already helped deliver toys to 223 children in the area according to its creator Misty Barrow.
It fields requests from families in need through Facebook; however, it is not an official non-profit organization.
Barrow circulates the requests to area businesses and residents who help sponsor the families through the donation of toys.
However, some families have requested assistance at the last minute and Barrow says she’s running out of resources.
“We've had a couple of sponsors fall through and didn't have enough financially to help. We've ended up with a couple of last minute families who didn't know about us and now we have nine children we need to cover last minute," Barrow said.
"There are just not enough resources in town to finish up."
Barrow is asking the public for toys suitable for the ages of 2 and up. The oldest child in need is 17.
