A portion of a walking trail in a local park remained closed Thursday night after what was described as a mostly successful bee removal because bees may still be inside a tree along the walkway.

COPPERAS COVE (August 28, 2014) A portion of the South Park walking trail in Copperas Cove remained closed Thursday evening because of a potentially aggressive swarm of bees.

The bees were discovered next the trail behind Mattie Drive and Guy Circle.

A 100-yard stretch of the trail was closed in that area while the bees were removed Thursday.

The removal process was “mostly successful,” the city said in an updated press release, but “there is a possibility of bees remaining inside the infested tree.”

Park staffers will re-evaluate the situation on Friday.

“At this point we anticipate the portion of the trail possibly being closed through the next few days,” the city said.

“The bees may be aggressive so the city advises all residents to use caution in the area and to keep children and pets away,” the city said.
