No one was injured in the fire, but the scene was littered with debris.

By about 10:15 a.m. Monday police had opened all but one southbound lane, but traffic still was snarled both on the main lanes and on the access road just north of the 17th St. exit.

The truck driver said he started experiencing engine trouble as he drove through Waco, which forced him to pull onto the shoulder near South 18th Street.

As the driver got out of his truck he noticed smoke coming from under the hood and a short time later saw flames.

The truck tractor cab was destroyed, but the truck the driver said the truck he was hauling to Austin wasn’t damaged.
