COOPER (January 1, 2014) Two men were jailed Wednesday, charged in connection with a shooting that left a Texas Parks and Wildlife game warden injured.
Eli Stephens, 18, and Dalton Haddix, 21, were taken into custody Tuesday and booked into the Delta County jail in Cooper, Parks and Wildlife spokesman Mike Cox said.
Stephens was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and Haddix was charged with failure to report a felony.
Off-duty Game Warden Chris Fried was bow hunting Sunday in the Cooper Wildlife Management Area when he was shot, Cox said.
Investigators say Fried was looking to see if someone might be hunting illegally when he was struck by a bullet fired from a high-powered rifle.
Fried, 31, remains in stable condition at a Dallas hospital, Cox said.
He suffered a gunshot wound to the upper right arm.
The bullet lodged in his chest.
Fried is based in Delta County and has been a game warden since June 2009, the department said.
