CORPUS CHRISTI (June 11, 2014) Two Corpus Christi firefighters were taken to hospitals after they evidently inhaled hot gas while fighting a fire on a cargo ship, Fire Department Capt. James Brown said Wednesday.
One firefighter was treated and released after the fire Tuesday afternoon aboard the Antonio at the Port of Corpus Christi, Brown said.
The other injured firefighter was improving Wednesday at a San Antonio hospital and should be released in a couple of days, he said.
Brown did not have information on the firefighter’s condition.
Workers in the hold were welding when some wood being used to support the cargo started on fire, he said.
The ship was hauling wind turbine parts.
The fire was extinguished in about an hour.
