Two Held After Off-Duty Border Patrol Agent Killed In Texas

SANTA MONICA (August 4, 2014) Two suspects were in custody Monday in Willacy County after an off-duty Border Patrol agent was shot to death and another man wounded during a family fishing trip in South Texas.

Information about the two suspects wasn’t immediately released.

The shootings occurred Sunday night during a robbery near Santa Monica.

The agent was carrying a gun in a holster and the robbers evidently opened fire after spotting it, Border Patrol spokesman Omar Zamora said.

Relatives of the slain agent provided descriptions that helped officers find the vehicle in which the robbers escaped.

The name of the slain agent and further details on the wounded man weren't immediately released.
