MCNARY (November 29, 2013) Two people died on Thanksgiving Day when the driver of a box truck swerved to try to avoid spilled from an overturned 18-wheeler and the truck plunged over a bridge and burst into flames on Interstate 10 in West Texas.
The crash happened early Thursday at a bridge on Interstate 10 eastbound near McNary.
Hudspeth County sheriff's spokesman Rusty Fleming said cattle overturned, allowing cattle to roam the highway.
Then, as the box truck crested a nearby hill, the driver of the tried to swerve to avoid the cattle and lost control of the truck, which went over the side of a bridge, crashing in flames and killing both people inside.
The dead haven't been identified.
Some cattle from the overturned truck also died.
McNary is 55 miles southeast of El Paso.
