HEWITT (January 4, 2013)--Hewitt police stopped a speeding SUV early Friday morning and detained two juveniles, but a third teen escaped and was the subject of a search.

Hewitt police Deputy Chief Tuck Saunders told News 10 the Hewitt department was notified just after 3:30 a.m. Friday that Waco police were pursuing a white Chevrolet Equinox on Waco Drive at speeds of more than 60 miles per hour.

Saunders said at about 4:05 a.m. Hewitt officers were able to stop the SUV in the 8200 block of Mars Drive, where they detained two juveniles.

A third teen ran.

Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said Waco patrol officers began chasing the Equinox after trying to pull the driver over for speeding at North 18th Street and Waco Drive, but said because of excessive speed they broke off the chase and notified other agencies of the fleeing SUV.

Saunders said one of the juveniles apprehended complained of pain in his ankle but no one required medical attention.
