Two Texas Boys, 16, Charged In Death Of 17-Year-Old Classmate

DALLAS (March 10, 2014) Two 16-year-old boys have been charged with murder in the death of a 17-year-old Wylie East High School classmate, police said.

Authorities found the body of Wylie East student Ivan Mejia Saturday night in Garland.

He was killed on a road behind the Wylie school, police said, but it’s not clear how he died.

His body was discovered after officers responded to a 911 report of a car that was veering off the road.

Officers spotted the car near a wooded area in Garland and were waiting when the two 16-year-old boys returned to it.

When officers asked the teens what they were doing, they said they were “burying a body,” Wylie police Sgt. Donna Valdepena said.

Police have evidence the boys planned the attack and specifically targeted Mejia, she said.

Authorities later said the attack stemmed from a dispute over a girl that Mejia and one of the other teenagers were both dating.

The two were held Monday in a juvenile detention facility in Collin County.
