Two Texas Death Row Inmates Lose Appeals

HOUSTON (October 31, 2012)--The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals Wednesday upheld the convictions of two men sentenced to die for the deaths of law enforcement officers.

The state's highest criminal appeals court Wednesday rejected appeals from Daniel Lopez, 25, and Jerry Martin, 42.

Lopez was sentenced to death for running down Stuart Alexander during a wild 2009 chase as the Corpus Christi police lieutenant was deploying spike strips on a highway to stop him.

Martin and a fellow inmate stole a truck while on a prison work detail in Huntsville in 2007 and drove into a horse, which corrections Officer Susan Canfield was riding.

She was killed.

The prison escape failed.
