SELMA (September 20, 2013)—Two Selma police officers who were wounded in an exchange of gunfire after responding to a domestic disturbance were in critical condition Friday.
A suspect was also shot.
A spokesman for the city of Selma said Friday that both the wounds the officers received aren’t believed to be life threatening.
City administrator Ken Roberts said the pair, whom he identified only as Officer Kierum and Cpl. Balderamas, were in a hospital in San Antonio in critical but stable condition.
Roberts had no information on the suspect's medical condition.
Jessie Hernandez, Jr. faces charges of aggravated assault against a public servant.
Roberts says the officers responded to a 911 call Thursday night about a disturbance outside the home of the suspect's stepfather.
Investigators say Hernandez opened fire on the officers.
One officer returned fire, striking Hernandez twice.
Selma police and Texas Rangers are investigating.
