Vandals Target Vehicles In Local Neighborhood

WACO (February 27, 2014) Waco police were searching Thursday for vandals they believe may be responsible for shooting the windows out of 16 vehicles over a period of four days in a local neighborhood.

The incidents happened between Feb. 21 and Monday in North and West Waco, police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

The vandals used a pellet or BB gun or “wrist rocket” slingshot to shoot out the window of parked vehicles, he said.

The estimated damages total several thousand dollars, Swanton said.

"(Police) continued receiving the calls through the weekend and most of these cases occurred in the area bordered by 19th Street to the Chimney Hill Addition and from Park Lake to Herring Avenue," Swanton said in a Thursday news release.

The vandals are striking at night, Swanton said.

Investigators think they are driving up to the vehicles, stopping and then shooting out the windows.

The victims haven’t been able to provide descriptions of the suspects or of the vehicle the vandals are using, Swanton said.

Investigators are interested in finding any residents who may have been victims of similar incidents, but may not have reported them.

They’re asking those residents to call Waco police at (254) 750-7500, Detective Eric Hawkins at (254) 750-3611 or Waco Crime Stoppers at (254) 753-HELP (4357).
