HUBBARD (January 23, 2013)--Next month will mark the first anniversary of a wall that was built to honor veterans

Vietnam Veteran Donald Rogers built the wall last February in front of his home in Hubbard.

He got the idea to build the wall after spending more than 40 years trying to return name patches he took from men who died in Vietnam to their family members.

"Just before the aircraft was about to take off, I had another flight engineer hit me on the shoulder and say the commanding officer wanted to talk to me so he took my place," Rogers said.

The Chinook aircraft he was suppose to be on crashed after taking off.

Since that day, Rogers has done his best to contact family members of the seven men who died on that Chinook aircraft.

Last year his mission grew to building a wall where veterans and service men and women could be honored.

"I just don't want the guys to be forgot about," Rogers said.

The wall cost nearly $30,000 dollars, most of which came out of Rogers own pocket.

"I know memorials can be expensive so I wanted to provide an inexpensive way for families to honor them.," Rogers said.

It cost's $50 to put someone's name on the Veterans Honor Wall.

The wall can hold 400 names and currently has 26 name plates.
