Victim Of Deadly Hit-And-Run Identified; Driver Still At Large

KILLEEN (December 4, 2012)—Police Tuesday identified a man who was killed in a hit-and-run accident early Sunday morning in the 1000 block of South State Highway 195 as Richard J. Taylor, 46, of Killeen.

The driver of the pickup truck that struck Taylor didn’t stop and remained at large Tuesday, Killeen police said.

Officers responded to the accident around 1:10 a.m. Sunday and found Taylor lying in the northbound lanes of the highway.

Officers were able to establish that two men had attempted to cross the roadway from east to west.

One of the men made it across the lanes of traffic and when he turned to look for his friend, he saw a white, single-cab Nissan pickup truck strike Taylor man.

The driver didn’t stop and continued northbound on the highway.

A vehicle that was following the truck also struck the man who was lying in the roadway, but that driver stopped and was at the scene when police arrived.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the driver of the accident to call Bell County Crime Stoppers at (254) 526-TIPS.
