Volunteers Pitch In To Help Elderly Texas Woman Raze Barn

FORT WORTH (June 1, 2014) Volunteers in Fort Worth pitched in to help a woman in her 90s tear down a dilapidated barn after she received repeated code violation warnings.

Armintha Brown watched with relief Saturday as a tractor tore through layers of sheet metal and lumber.

"I never expected this sort of help,” she said.

The barn once used to house pigs, but it had fallen into disrepair in the past few years.

"I knew it was ugly, but I didn't have the money to do anything about it,” Brown, who lives in far northeast Fort Worth, said.

Worried about the warnings, she contacted Councilwoman Gyna Bivens for help.

Bivens assembled the team of volunteers, including members of a local church and firefighters to do the job.
