WACO (August 4, 2014) Steve Edward Perkins, 56, of Waco, who was left to babysit two children over the weekend, was in the McLennan County Jail Monday charged with indecency with a child after a girl reported she was touched inappropriately.

Perkins was ordered held in lieu of $50,000 bond, online jail records show.

Officers were sent at around 11:30 p.m. Saturday to a home in West Waco after the girl’s parents called police, Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

The parents told officers that their daughter said she was touched and fondled while they were away.

The girl’s father confronted the babysitter, who had been staying with the family for the past few days, Swanton said.

The man tried to leave, Swanton said, but was struck and suffered a head injury as the father detained him until officers arrived.

He was taken to a hospital for treatment before he was jailed, Swanton said.

The suspect was taken to a Waco hospital where he was treated for his injury and then taken to jail, Swanton said.
