WACO (January 2, 2014) Ruben Mondragon, 28, who was arrested after a high-speed chase that started in downtown Waco and ended in a crash on Interstate 35, remained in the McLennan County Jail Thursday, charged with evading arrest or detention, driving while license invalid enhanced, delivery of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.
Bonds on the charges total $49,000, but he’s also held without bond on a parole violation.
Deputies and U.S. Marshals were searching Tuesday for Mondragon, who was named in several outstanding warrants, authorities said.
They spotted him Tuesday morning, but he managed to elude them.
Just after noon Tuesday, a deputy spotted Mondragon's car near 18th Street and Austin Avenue in Waco and tried to pull the wanted man over.
A chase ensued along Austin Avenue and then to Interstate 35, where the fleeing driver headed toward Temple at speeds reaching 120 miles per hour.
The highway chase ended when a tire blew on Mondragon’s car on the southbound interstate access road in front Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, authorities said.
Paramedics were requested as a precaution, but authorities said Mondragon wasn’t seriously injured.
