Water Main Break Causes Road To Collapse In Austin

AUSTIN (October 8, 2012)--A water main break in Austin caused part of a street to collapse and cracked sections of pavement, utility officials said.

Authorities say the damage to York Boulevard in northwest Austin was discovered Monday morning.

Austin water utility spokeswoman Jill Mayfield said the road was closed for the repairs.

Some water outages were reported in the neighborhood as the line was shut down.

Officials are trying to determine what caused the water line break.

A cold front moved through the Austin area over the weekend.

The National Weather Service says temperatures early Monday were in the low 50s in Austin.
