Wife Of Longtime Texas Judge Charged In Husband’s Shooting

LONGVIEW (March 11, 2013)—Ira Lawson, the wife of a longtime East Texas justice of the peace, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon-family violence, in a shooting that left her husband seriously injured.

Gregg County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Sam Lawson was hospitalized Sunday in critical condition.

Longview police spokeswoman Kristie Brian said the shooting happened late Saturday at the couple's home.

Brian had no information about what prompted the argument but said the police have a history of domestic-related calls to the residence.

A handgun was been recovered.

Brian had no details on the owner.

Lawson was elected justice of the peace in 1987.

Ira Lawson’s bond was set at $100,000.
