BELL COUNTY (January 27, 2014) Fire raced through a barn Monday morning near Stillhouse Hollow Reservoir and for a time threatened a house, but firefighters were able to keep the wind-whipped flames from spreading.

The fire was reported just after 10 a.m. in the 4300 block of Mulberry Drive, just south of Belton.

The first units at the scene requested help from other departments because the gusty wind threatened to spread the flames.

The fire destroyed the barn, but firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading.

No one was hurt, but three puppies died in the fire, officials said.

Bell County Fire Marshal Steve Casey said the cause of the fire is under investigation, but called the blaze suspicious.
