WACO (December 19, 2012)—Waco firefighters were spread thin late Wednesday afternoon as they battled three wind-whipped grass fires, one of which was threatening a house and may have been set deliberately.

At one point most of the department’s crews were committed to fighting the fires along Lake Shore Drive and J J Flewellen Road.

Winds pushed one of the fires in the 3100 block of J J Flewellen toward a house.

A bystander said he saw someone set that fire.

Fire officials said the combination of low humidity, dry conditions, and gusty winds required a major response to the fires.
