SAN ANTONIO (December 19, 2013) A student at the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio says classmate Robert Cameron Redus, 23, resisted arrest and scuffled with a campus police officer in the moments before the officer shot and killed him.
Kyle Carnett told the San Antonio Express-News that Redus attempted to strike the officer, Cpl. Christopher Carter, and ignored the officer's orders.
His account is in line with details of the Dec. 6 confrontation provided by Alamo Heights police officials.
Authorities said Carter stopped Redus after seeing him drive erratically near the campus.
Carnett says Redus "was definitely not being cooperative."
Carnett turned away just before Carter fired six shots at Redus.
The Redus family has said they understand Redus was resisting arrest, but say he was initially cooperative and question the justification in shooting an unarmed student.
