HOUSTON (April 3, 2013)—A woman who wasn't licensed to drive died and her 10-year-old son was critically injured after she jumped into the driver’s seat of an SUV and drove the vehicle into the front of a furniture store in Houston, police said.
The incident happened after the man who was driving the SUV in which the woman and her son and daughter were riding stopped in a parking lot.
The man and the girl got out, but the 28-year-old woman, saying she wanted to learn to drive, hopped into the driver’s seat, released the brake and accelerated.
The SUV struck the front of a store and a parked vehicle.
The woman died at the scene.
Her name wasn’t immediately released.
She wasn’t wearing a seat belt, police said.
