JONESBORO (August 8, 2012)--A Comanche County woman died just before 5 p.m. Tuesday when the car she was driving slammed into a truck tractor, semi-trailer, she was thrown from her car and struck by a second 18-wheeler.

Department of Public Safety Trooper Gary Stiles said Carla Payne Wendeborn, 43, of Dublin, was alone in a Kia EX sedan, southbound on State Highway 36 about two miles south of Jonesboro when the Kia struck the driver’s door of an 18-wheeler in the northbound lane.

The Kia then went under the semi-trailer and Wendeborn was elected from her car and was run over by a second 18-wheeler that also was northbound.

The Kia careened off the roadway on the southbound side and came to rest in a ditch, just a few feet north of Coryell County Road 196.

Witnesses to the accident reported the crash on a cellular telephone and later told Stiles the Kia seemed to be driving erratically before the crash.

Coryell County Justice of the Peace Coy Latham pronounced the woman dead at the scene and ordered a blood toxicology test but declined to order a full autopsy.

Neither of the truck drivers was injured.

Traffic in both directions on Tx 36 was slowed for some time while the scene was cleared.
