KATY (September 13, 2013)—A man who shot his estranged wife in the back Friday morning outside of a Houston area high school died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a more than three hour standoff.
Valerie Robinson, 32, a cafeteria worker, was shot to death at around 6 a.m. Friday as she arrived at Tompkins High School in Katy, Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. John Sampa said.
When Fort Bend County sheriff's deputies arrived, they found two coaches performing CPR on the woman in a rear parking lot of the school.
She later died at a hospital.
Witnesses said they saw an armed man drive off in a white pickup after the shooting and a state trooper later found the pickup just west of Katy at a home in Brookshire.
At around 10:30 a.m., after a standoff that lasted about 3 ½ hours, a Waller County sheriff's tactical team entered the house and found Gregory Robinson, 54, dead in a front bedroom.
A .22-caliber rifle was recovered, Sampa said.
