WACO (July 24, 2014) Charity Suzanne Smith, 38, who’s accused of leaving her 12-year-old daughter behind when she fled from the Providence Health Center Emergency Room after an attempted theft, was in the McLennan County Jail Thursday facing theft and child abandonment charges.

Smith and Dana Lynn Goodnature, 39, went to the emergency room on July 14 for treatment of an undisclosed problem, police say.

A security guard confronted the two women after a doctor reported that he saw them trying to steal items from the emergency room, police said.

Goodnature was arrested at the scene, but Smith, also known as Charity Suzanne Fyke, fled, leaving her daughter behind, police said.

She was charged with theft of more than $50, but less than $1,500.

She was released after posting a $2,000 bond.

The theft involved such things as gauze pads, tongue depressors, denatured alcohol and sterilized water, police said.
