Woman Who Stole From Texas Charity Is Headed To Prison

GALVESTON (November 2, 2012)—Lauren Michelle Howell has been sentenced to six months in prison for stealing more than $75,000 from the charity at which she handled the finances.

Howell must also repay The Rainbow Connection in Galveston.

She's the former treasurer of the group that uses volunteers to help families of children with cancer and blood disorders.

Galveston police were notified in August 2011 after the head of the organization noticed a shortage of funds meant for a children's camp.

Howell pleaded guilty Sept. 7 in the theft case.

A police affidavit says Howell and her husband were losing their house and had medical bills.
