Autopsy Ordered For Newborn Found In Texas Recycling Center

SAN ANTONIO (December 24, 2013) An autopsy will be performed on a dead newborn whose body was found on a sorting conveyor belt at a San Antonio recycling center, the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office said Tuesday.

Waste Management spokeswoman Lisa Doughty says an employee working at the beginning of the sorting line found the body just before 1 p.m. on Monday.

The facility immediately stopped operations at that time and police were called, she said.

Doughty said Waste Management has provided police with records of all the trucks that arrived at the facility between Saturday and noon on Monday.

Police completed their onsite investigation late Monday.

Doughty says the center reopened early Tuesday.

Investigators think the body, which was inside a blue duffel bag, was dumped in the trash sometime between Saturday and Monday morning.
